It is a well known fact that modern homes need circuit breakers to protect against potentially hazardous electrical current overloads, which cause overheating and potentially fires. The primary purpose of a circuit breaker is to stop electrical current flow when the current reaches a hazardous level. There are two main types of circuit breakers in use today – main circuit breakers and individual circuit breakers.

The former is generally the primary circuit breaker for a home or business, with the latter being circuit breakers targeted to specific appliances such as a dryer. Within the last few years, however, a third type of circuit breaker has been made publically available. These new Arc Fault Circuit Breakers serve a different function than their older, standard counterparts.

What do they do?

While a standard circuit breaker, whether main or individual, is designed to cut off the flow of electricity of the current exceeds certain pre-set limits, Arc Fault Circuit Breakers are designed to stop the flow of electricity if the flow is not traveling to its intended destination. This is a lot less complicated than it sounds. In layman’s terms, these circuit breakers stop the flow of electrical current when a wire or cord is damaged and/or in cases of a broken conductor.

Why?

The reason for the invention of these Arc Fault Circuit Breakers is the fact that broken conductors (i.e. severed, frayed or otherwise torn wiring) are the leading cause of fires in American homes. While traditional circuit breakers can go a long way towards preventing electrical fires, they can do nothing to prevent electrical fires that are not caused by an overloaded circuit.

Arc Fault Circuit Breakers are generally only required to be installed in bedrooms; however they can be beneficial when installed in any room of the house. Particularly rooms with numerous cords, such as those from computers, televisions, and lamps. The fact of the matter is that these cords are unsightly and are often routed under rugs or furniture, which is the problem. The cords are often damaged either by heavy furniture, heavy traffic, or even just by something being dropped on them.

Unfortunately, because they are so often hidden, the damage goes unnoticed, and can often create a fire hazard.

If your home is equipped with Arc Fault Circuit Breakers, any damage to a wire that changes the conduction of electricity will trip the breaker. This means that the flow of electricity to broken wires will cease, and the likelihood of fire is diminished.

It is a commonly known fact that electrical circuit breakers are a necessity in our modern world. Since the invention of electricity, its use has exploded exponentially, and now it is used in virtually every home. Its uses range from lighting to heating to providing energy for electronic devices, and with all of the varying pulls on the electricity in any given home; it is no surprise that electrical fires can be problematic and even potentially fatal. Because of that, circuit breakers were invented to give people a way to constantly manage and instantly stop the flow of electricity to any one appliance or other electrical device. The single biggest name in circuit breaker technology is ABB Circuit Breakers.

About the Company

ABB Circuit Breakers are consistently leading the circuit breaker technology pack, and they are a name that is recognized and trusted the world over. In addition to creating circuit breakers for home use, they also specialize in railroad circuit breakers and low voltage products and systems. ABB Circuit Breakers truly span the spectrum of electrical circuit breaker needs. They range from mini circuit breakers all the way up to the largest RR circuit breakers and custom molded case breakers.

In addition to creating products that meet the ever increasing and changing needs of a growing global population, ABB Circuit Breakers operates companies in well over 100 countries worldwide, and is seen as an electrical products pioneer and circuit breaker technology leader in both industrialized and developing nations.

One of ABB Circuit Breakers biggest claims to fame is their commitment to limiting negative environmental impact while still providing the maximum electrical performance and function possible in each and every one of their products. They are the undisputed leader amongst circuit breaker manufacturers, and each and every product they produce is guaranteed to be both safe and dependable – both qualities that are essential in a circuit breaker.

General Information

Whenever you need to install a new or replacement circuit breaker, whether one of the many quality ABB Circuit Breakers or otherwise, you should always contract the job out to a certified electrician who is trained and experienced. Electricity has the potential to be dangerous – even deadly – if not properly handled or controlled. That is the precise reason that circuit breakers are necessary in the first place – attempting to install or uninstall a circuit breaker without the proper training can be deadly.

General Electric Circuit Breakers

There aren’t many people who spend much time thinking about their circuit breakers; that is, until something goes terribly and sometimes fatally wrong with them. Most of us simply assume that our home or businesses circuit breakers will do their jobs and keep the electricity flowing smoothly – and that they will do this without any attention from us. However, in order to be truly safe and prudent, it is imperative that everyone have a basic understanding of their dwelling’s electrical ebb and flow. One of the first things that you need to do in order to understand your home’s electrical capacity, strengths and weaknesses is to know what brand of circuit breaker you are using. One of the most commonly utilized brands is General Electric Circuit Breakers.

Why?

There are numerous reasons that General Electric Circuit Breakers are so commonly used, but the primary is that General Electric is a household name, and it is a brand that most people recognize and trust. This is based on years and even decades of quality electrical products being produced for sale on the consumer market.

Where are they found?

The fact is that every single modern electrically wired home in does (or should) have a circuit breaker. If you do not have a circuit breaker, chances are you are in violation of one or more building codes. The circuit breaker works by controlling the flow of electricity throughout the house and amongst electronics, outlets, and electrical appliances. Without a circuit breaker, the electrical current can become too strong, create too much heat, and cause catastrophic fire damage.

The circuit breaker is designed to simply cut off electrical flow once it has reached a certain (and potentially dangerous) level. Almost everyone has heard the term “tripping a breaker;” which is the function of all General Electric Circuit Breakers. Once the breaker has been tripped, the electrical flow ceases and therefore the heat source is cut off and the risk for fire is eliminated. Unlike older fuses, which had to be replaced when tripped or “blown,” a tripped breaker can simply be flipped back to the on position and electrical flow restored.

Safety

In order to protect your safety and that of your family, it is imperative that you have a functional circuit breaker installed in your home if it is wired for electricity. While electricity has become commonplace in modern life, it is not without its dangers. Taking the proper precautions can ensure that the benefits of electricity can be harnessed safely.

A circuit breaker is one of the most important safety features in any home, as they prevent the flow of electrical current and heat to any one electrical appliance or outlet from becoming so great as to cause a fire. Because circuit breakers are so important to the safety of our families, it is important to choose a brand that you can trust when installing a new circuit breaker or when you are replacing an old circuit breaker. A Square D Circuit Breaker is always going to provide you and your family with dependable protection against fire.

Square D Circuit Breaker have been around for decades, and most families are familiar with the iconic rectangular “square d” symbol that is imprinted upon the circuit breaker access doors of each and every Square D Circuit Breaker. This symbol has become synonymous with quality electrical maintenance, and many families sleep easy night after night with this iconic symbol guarding their electrical current flow.

History

The fact of the matter is that the Square D invented the plug-in circuit breaker niche in 1951. At the time of its inception, the plug in circuit breaker was extremely technologically advanced and innovative, and since that time they have continued to be leaders in the circuit breaker field. The company consistently produces quality products, and their circuit breakers can be found in both homes and commercial facilities alike.

About Circuit Breakers

A circuit breaker is necessary in each and every electrically facilitated building in order to prevent electrical current overload. When electrical currents overload occurs, heat builds up in excess and fires can and often do occur. That is why, in the US and other industrialized nations, there are very specific building codes relating to electrical wiring and circuit breakers. So when a company has been around as long as the company that produces each and every Square D Circuit breaker, you know that it is a company whose products can stand up to scrutiny and deliver.

Installation

Whenever a Square D Circuit breaker is installed, it should be installed by a qualified and certified electrical professional. Depending on your location and local building codes, you will also have to have at least one (if not several) building inspections (in circumstances of new construction) before your building is certified as habitable or fit for use. If you are have any questions regarding the installation of your Square D Circuit breaker, you should always consult a licensed electrician.

Zinsco Circuit Breakers

Circuit Breakers are very necessary devices that cease the electrical current of a circuit in the event of excessive or too much voltage. Circuit breakers are indispensable, not simply because they can prevent electrical fires and other electrical disasters but also because they can be reset as opposed to a fuse, which must be replaced each and every time is overloaded or blown.

Because we are so reliant upon electricity in our daily lives, it is essential to use a brand we can trust, such as Zinsco circuit breakers.

What they Do

Every single electric appliance in your home or place of business receives these electrical currents by way of standard electrical circuit breakers. These can be one of two forms: individual or main, which is shared. Generally, your “main” Zinsco circuit breakers are going to control the circuits of everything in your home or business, whilst individual breakers can be tailored to individual appliances.

Regardless of where your home or business is located, having the appropriate circuit breakers can literally be the difference between life and death. They are likely the most important safety feature in any single building, and Zinsco circuit breakers are consistently of high quality and designed to protect you, your family, your business and your property.

Circuit breakers work by measuring the amount heat produced by and electrical current. When the heat of the current becomes too high, the breaker simply cuts of the circuit to stop it. Meaning that the flow of electricity stops, the heat stops, and potentially dangerous fires are averted.

How they Protect You

In addition to being useful for controlling electricity and thereby heat flow in order to protect your home, Zinsco circuit breakers are also a useful tool for instantly cutting off power to the entire house.

This can be a useful ability in the event of a natural disaster, utility malfunction or non-electrical fire, and can allow you to preserve the functionality and integrity of your electrical appliances.

In order to get the most use out of Zinsco circuit breakers, particularly main circuit breakers, you are going to want to clearly label each and every electrical circuit breaker so that you know which appliance (or area of your home or business) each breaker controls.

This ensures that you will be able to properly control the flow of electricity throughout your entire home or place of business with ease and dependability. Having this ability ensures that anyone entering the structure will be as protected as possible from injury or even death due to accidental electrical current overload.
