Circuit Breakers Interrupt Electric Currents
Circuit breakers are a type of fuse which interrupts an electric current in a circuit when the current is too high. Should the circuit breaker trip is can be reset as opposed to a fuse which has to be replaced.
Circuit breakers are basically electrical switches that automatically turn off electrical flow when a problem is detected in the circuit. The flow of electricity is monitored and if an overload occurs or there is short circuit detection the circuit breaker will terminate the flow of electrical current immediately.
Areas that have no extra protection and have a high impedance earth are at considerable risk when it comes to electrical shocks and one should have an earth leakage circuit breaker which offers additional protection. There are two types of safety devices one being a circuit breaker and the other a residual current device and both are used in areas that have high levels of earth impedance.
Circuit breakers and residual current devices are used to reduce the risk of shock in the event of a current flow to the earth. These current charges are not strong enough to trip a circuit breaker but are strong enough to severely injure or cause death in a human.
A circuit breaker can fall under different classifications such as construction types, interrupting types, voltage types and structural types. The voltage circuit breakers that are low is used in domestic homes as well as commercial and industrial sites and can be mounted in switchboards as well as switchgear cabinets.
A small circuit breaker can be installed directly into equipment or can be arranged in a breaker panel. There are also magnetic circuit breakers, thermal magnetic circuit breakers and common trip breakers as well as medium voltage circuit breakers and vacuum circuit breakers. Depending on what type of electrical circuit one has will depend on what type of circuit breaker to use.
